Studio Work – Exploring Light, Motion, and Time
Inside the walls of Xangle Studio in Montréal, I work with light painting, multi-camera photography, and volumetric capture in technical and poetic ways.
Over the years, this black-box space has evolved into a creative laboratory dedicated to the exploration of light in all its forms. All these experiments are guided by curiosity and a desire to capture the invisible traces of movement that define human presence.
Light-Painting Photography in the Studio
While much of my light-painting work happens outdoors under the stars, the studio brings a different dimension: one of precision and control. In this environment, I can refine and repeat movements, adjust light trails and explore colors more freely. The studio’s total blackout creates a blank canvas where the performer and the light painter co-create each image.
Multi-Camera and Bullet-Time Experiments
Beyond traditional photography, my studio is also home to a multi-camera capture system developed over more than a decade of research and engineering. Depending on the project, we use up to 200 synchronized cameras to freeze a moment, move around a subject, or reconstruct entire scenes in 3D. These systems have been featured in major exhibitions and brand activations around the world. In the studio, this technology serves as a creative tool to explore movement and light.
Collaborations and Creative Projects
Over the years, I’ve worked with dancers, performers, musicians, and filmmakers, using light as the common language between disciplines. Some sessions are long-exposure portraits with a single performer; others involve complex installations involving volumetric capture. Each project is rooted in curiosity and human connection.
Many of these studio sessions have led to international exhibitions, brand experiences, and educational projects.
Technology and Craft
All of the tools used in the studio are designed and built by our team, including the **light-painting tubes and blades** as well as **Xangle Camera Server**, our custom camera-control software. This combination of artistic intuition and engineering expertise gives us complete creative freedom on each project.
A Space for Experimentation and Discovery
Ultimately, my studio work is about exploration, testing new ideas, refining visual languages, and pushing the boundaries of what light can express. It’s a space where art and technology coexist, where every project begins as a question. Some experiments lead to exhibitions or films; others remain private tests. All of them contribute to a growing archive of light and movement: an ongoing investigation into the connection between the human body, light, and time.
